Twitter is the fourth branch of government. It acts as a check and balance against corrupt gatekeepers of information, including the government, corporations, partisan experts, and the press. If Thomas Jefferson could have invented Twitter, he would have.

Like you said, no branch of the government is perfect. Try petitioning Congress and see what happens. The First Amendment is under stress. The Second is under fire. The Fourth is barely alive. The Fifth is almost gone. The Sixth and Seventh are on life support. Twitter lives.

I think most people don't give a crap about Twitter. All the insular, non voting populace that makes up a large percentage of eligible voters. Only half of people eligible to vote do so.
