He was also a willing participant. The 1800 election was as vicious as any modern election. Good chance he'd be firing off tweets about how Adams was a traitor and colluding with the British.

Technically, the Founders specifically made us a republic (governing via representatives) 2 insulate the govt. from the fleeting whims of the people. Twitter *proves* that was a wise decision. TJ wdn't have wanted it @ all. Of course, he'd be horrified @ a LOT more today. /1
