Why do breads come with the ends on? No one eats them. Right?

Ha! I just threw mine out to the birds and squirrels all while thinking the two ends were yelling... "Let me out of this bag!"

Yep. The top crust gets all crispy and a little burnt.

Thursday was heel night at my house. We'd eat all the heels from the previous week.

Mine are never eaten. Used only as bumpers. I keep the front one in place and always select the slice behind it.

Pro tip: Always toast in a pan. Butter the pan and while still bubbling cover with bread and sop it up. The bubbles are water that is boiling off so the steam permeates the bread making it warm and soft. Once browned, flip it and brown the other side in the residue. BEST EVER.
