I trust the American people to be responsible and to make rational risk calculations given good information. The same apparently does not hold true for many in the media and in positions of political power.

My governor, Abbot from Texas, had very common-sense and sensible recommendations today for our re-opening. I'm proud of how he and his task force have handled the whole thing.

But if you can't trust people to be sensible, how do you trust those whose job it is to keep people from going full-on batshit crazy, how do you trust them to be sensible?

The alternative to not trusting people to be sensible is to put people with no sense in charge of them. Expecting people to be responsible begets a more responsible society overall over time. Treat people like adults and they are more likely to act like adults.
