Watching Democrats believe their own fake news gives me an Uncanny Valley kind of experience. They resemble regular humans, but their gullibility makes them seem slightly "off" in a way that disturbs me. Anyone else feel that? It's a serious question.

To be fair, I assume lots of Democrats have the Uncanny Valley feeling about Conservatives, albeit on different topics. The phenomenon only gets triggered by the extra-fake news that is screamingly untrue, not the everyday biased stuff.

They believe their own BS and you can’t convince them otherwise. I no longer try.

It's been going on for much longer than that. Remember the reporting about Mitt Romney being 'amazed' on how a Wawa food order worked? They just perfected the cognitive dissonance with Trump.

I think this is what disturbs me most (or perhaps it is the uncanny valley feeling)-- rational, intelligent, thoughtful people go all in on irrational/broken thinking and suddenly can't-- they cannot be objective on information.

It's unsettling to encounter someone in the throes of complete ideological possession, so wrapped up in their own delusions that they can't perceive reality. This is the origin of the NPC meme.

Ideological possession is a great descriptor

How can you tell?
Humans NORMALLY have their critical thinking skills switched off (heck, their rational thought process is normally switched off, cos they're too busy winging it on their "much vaunted" "so-called" "common sense"

I first noticed this during the Pentagon papers hoax.

I noticed it with the coverage and reporting on him as soon as he entered the race in 2015. Seriously, go back and watch his interviews throughout 2015 - 2016. Very interesting stuff.
