I have mixed feelings about the protestors. On one hand, it seems counterproductive and perhaps misinformed. (It isn’t just the flu.) On the other hand, I like living in a country where people will risk their lives for freedom, no regrets. I fully embrace both sides.

It's also not the Flu because the Flu kills youth. Hardly any cases of Covid-19 killing youth. In NYC, only 3 deaths under 17 years old. All 3 had underlying conditions.

Anecdote: Tampa General Hospital has a 400 bed unit for COVID-19... with 10 patients. Hoping we miss the worst case by a mile.

This is the former ARCO Arena in Sacramento, built out by the USACE at great expense to serve as an overflow COVID hospital. The current load factor in MetroSac hospitals is ~~50%, so this facility will (probably) never be necessary. But the need for it was based on "models."pic.twitter.com/et3BBAFJLm
-
All of these "models" made assumptions about the communicability and severity of the illness, none of which have held up to empirical scrutiny. This COVID scare has been a giant exercise on how to kill an economy through judicious use of the Precautionary Principle.

In 2004, there were over 37,000 hospitalizations in which influenza was noted during the hospital stay, and more than 21,100 hospital admissions resulted principally from influenza—https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK63484/
-
Hospital stays for influenza were slightly longer (5.3 days versus 4.6 days) and somewhat less costly ($6,900 versus $7,700) than the average hospital stay.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK63484/
