Practically every day I see a tweet or blog post about someone who wrongly thought COVID-19 was a hoax dying of COVID-19 and all I can think about are the members of the media and politicians who mis-informed that person and who assuredly feel zero responsibility.

EXACTLY. Governments took decision based on "estimations" that got revised many times. News media reporting that hospitals are overwhelmed, in the meantime some are furloughing employees. And now NY added 3,700 dead just because they presumably died from it, not test positivepic.twitter.com/UcAIhGqHce

Yes, hospitals are furloughing employees who aren't directly treating Covid-19. All of those elective procedures that were cancelled did not involve ICU-trained nurses. Non-Corona-related projects are largely cancelled, so there are a lot of IT people with no work to do.

I mostly blame those that brand actual news as hoaxes. The term “media” is too broad.

Seems many smart people give themselves all kinds of permission for mislabeling things “hoax”.

To be fair, they've had a lot of practice in being told that real dangerous things that demanded immediate action were fake news over the course of the last few years.
