If Jeff Bezos gave $2,000 to every unemployed person in the United States, how much money would he have left?

I don't think that's cash on hand Scott.

Yep. Also, consider the drop in Amazon stock price with the massive sell off. 140 B becomes 100 B real quick. Not sure it is his case, but many "stock-rich" people borrow against the stock to spend without giving up the corp ownership.

He apparently was ready to half his networth for a sidepiece.

Zero. His fortune is in the company and if he liquidates, he'll never get the $46B to give away. Factor in that whoever is now the owner of Amazon is not as smart and aggressive as Bezos and it's going to be ugly. Bezos should give me a billion and I'll figure out how to use it.

And he wouldn't have that money because liquidating all his assets at once, or even a large chunk, would tank the value of those assets.

Maybe... that would be true if he kept fortune as bunch of coins inside a building like Uncle Scrooge. He have to liquidate his assets and the liquidation process will definitely impact the value of his assets, like stocks and real estate.

Which would massively drive down the value, therefore probably negating the possibility of actually doing it - kinda depends on how literally you want to take the thought experiment
