On my Periscope every day at 10 AM ET and 10 PM ET. My listeners understand that, unfortunately, people will die under every strategy and there are no magic unicorns coming to save us.

No magic. The economy is taking a massive hit no matter what. But fewer people will die under the strategy of social distancing, yes?

That's the child question. The adult question includes a "compared to what" part. And even then no expert can model the comparison. But we can say with some confidence that keeping the economy shut for too long kills more than the virus.

When we factor in the suicides, depression, and addiction that correlates directly with the unemployment rate I’d say you are correct.

You can't have a rational "adult" conversation with a #TDS er. That can be said with absolute confidence.

By "still ahead" you mean the total weekly deaths for 2020 are still the same or lower?

I want solutions. The lockdown is expiring. How can normal activities be conducted with limited spread of the virus? In my day to day activities, why do I have to touch things? Doors, elevator buttons, handholds on transit and stairs? Make them unnecessary or antiviral.

People are skipping chemotherapy. People aren't going to the ER for strokes and heart attacks. There are real costs to the shutdown and it isn't just money.

Economy isn't purely down due to "shutdowns." It's also fear of infection: restaurants/bars were down 70% up to 10 days BEFORE lock downs. "Opening" might help a few targeted sectors, but to avoid economic disaster we must lower broad public fears == mass testing/tracing.
