I'm seeing opinions that we should shut down as long as possible to buy time until a maybe-weak-vaccination is available in 12-18 months. To me, that looks like a guaranteed catastrophe versus reopening the economy sooner, which looks to be about a 50% chance of catastrophe.

3% chance of catastrophe from reopening. 100% civilization collapses if this goes on for 12-18 months

Depends how you define it. Hospitals will probably crash in hot spots.

Build temporary military hospital at those spots

We don’t really know where the hottest spots will be, just guess.

We are a mobile society. While not ideal if a hospital was overwhelmed in a hotspot patients could be moved to alternate locations

Like the hot spots where nurses are dancing around in the hallways and the Army MASH hospital had to be disassembled because they treated ZERO patients.

75-80% of the economy is not still going. They are forecasting a 40% GDP hit in Q2 now and that's not assuming ripple effects in outer quarters the longer this goes on.

Not likely - even NYC - which is 1) densely populated 2) huge asian and european influx so more seeds 3) heavy public transport and 4) massive cuts to hospital beds has largely been fine. Most hospitals are furloughing huge portions of their staff right now. Handful of hospitals.
