You have to admit he’s the right president for this decision. ⁦@realDonaldTrump⁩pic.twitter.com/XCGB9OX760

It's worth remembering the last time the US pursued a policy of isolationism and withdrawal from multilateral organisations, however flawed. That ended in WWII and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of young American men who died on foreign fields. Don't betray their memory.

      Top notch sophism here.

How interesting that you assume it is sophistry rather than a sincerely held position which may, or may not, be right. Can you elaborate *why* you think I am deliberately setting out to deceive as opposed to debating in good faith? It's not a nice thing to assume, or say, is it?

“Don’t betray their memory” is manipulative rhetoric, not logic. I don’t believe you sincerely think there’s a chance leaving the WHO will kill people or result in anything close to a WWII situation.

I absolutely believe that a return to isolationism would be a betrayal of their sacrifice. In Donald trumps actions, I see nationalism over multilateralism and I believe that this is profoundly dangerous. Leaving WHO won't lead to war, but, for me, its indicative of his approach.

“Betrayal of their sacrifice”isn’t a thing. We’re allowed to change strategies as events require.

We tried that, in every single possible combination. That led to 2 world wars. Some things are better as regional orgs, but as the Global pandemic shows, health isn't really one of them. Reform the WHO or set up something better, but don't just walk away in a fit of pique

No, a profound ignorance of history took us in and stupidity keeps us. Never start a land war in Asia is another axiom we can take from history. We should have leaned from the previous 36738585 countries who tried. We betrayed their sacrifice, if you like.

I'd be ok with returning funding to WHO if they let Taiwan in, and let the director be picked by Taiwan.

what about the obvious betrayal of the WHO? Obviously not an impartial body. Not shocked as it is with the UN which isn't impartial either.

Some strategies led to two world wars and millions of deaths. Thats why we learned from them, eventually, after 100m dead or so. You may say that history does not repeat itself, but some lessons from history remain true, no matter how often you run the same experiment.

Closing the UN might be bad. Negotiating for a less corrupt leadership at WHO is not going to kill anyone.
