1/2 I'm not expert on China but I lived in Asia and it's not a few wet markets. It's an important if not an essential part of the economy. There is also all kinds of wet markets, some of them sell only one species of animal. I argue only regulation is needed.

2/2 And, personal experience here, I've been sick many times buying meat in supermarkets where the cold chain is not always respected. Afterwards I always took it fresh from a wet market and I never got sick. I would still go to a wet market, just watch out for a good one.
