The sooner the public realizes we will need to choose between freedom and privacy, the faster we can recover. #coronavirus

My point is that we probably no longer have the option of maintaining both our freedom and our personal privacy in the same fashion as the past. But I think we can be smart enough to limit the downside risk.

There is no "imagining" a system where we are both "anonymous" AND "tracked" because none of the makers of same OR the recipients/keepers of the generated DATA are trustworthy. This includes software/hardware vendors AND the presumed "managers" of said data.

Travel just once from your home to your place of work, and you are identified. There’s no such thing as anonymous tracking.

I disagree. How will “the infected” be identified, & when recovered, how will they get off the infected list? The “list” is ripe for hijacking & blackmail.

“For virus tracing purposes”. That’s where your assumption fails. It won’t be used for JUST virus tracing purposes. It will also be used for political purposes. Radicalized gov employees can’t help themselves. See the FISA scandal.

Maybe have some oversight? Bipartisan? No. If anyone wants to implement this draconian garbage of an idea, there needs to be a war fought over it. You don’t get to undo 244 years of brilliance with a pen.

For example, even if you attach a GUID to whatever data you are tracking, some entity somewhere would have to know the relationship between data sets to at some point make sense of it. Device_ids needed for this are inextricably tied to service providers which are never anonymous

That "system" already exists. My friends in Beijing have been forced to use it since Dec. Phone is scanned, & used to track you, & text if you've interacted with anyone, where that interaction was, & when. They also take your temp entering every business, every apartment complex.
