Yes. Many people are not dying due to other circumstances that are not occurring. Elective medical procedures would be one of many. I do not know the ###'s impact specifically for procedures, but death is a risk with many of them.

Yeah this is also weird because it's COVID's daily toll plotted against an average/365 for leading causes of death. I understand it, but I can't tell if it is that useful.

It is useful in understanding how it can overwhelm the health care system. It is a +1 cause of death that was avoidable. All the other deaths still have to be treated daily. Heart disease, cancer, traffic accidents are systemic. COVID-19 is an illness pretty much caused by China

Most common causes of death peak in the winter months too, so these numbers are all higher daily in the same period that COVID-19 spikes. Agreed. Not a good comparison using yearly averages (that also ebb and flow) with 3 months of data for COVID-19.

This week Dr Fauci on the Today Show called overcounting a hoax the day after Dr Brix admitted that doctors were directed to count all deaths as COVID if that person was infected, even if it wasn't the primary cause.

Eh. It's not making the claim that this will hold for all time or even a long time. It specifically says 'on that day' so if anyone is misled then they led themselves there. But you are right, the trend won't hold and over time it will revert to a mean much closer to zero.
