We’ve seen people ask whether respirators approved under standards used in other countries, such as KN95s, can be used in the U.S. during the #COVID19 pandemic. The answer is yes. https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/personal-protective-equipment-infection-control/faqs-shortages-surgical-masks-and-gowns#kn95 …pic.twitter.com/0i6BABO79Z

Today, FDA issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for non-NIOSH-approved N95 respirators made in China, making KN95 respirators eligible for authorization if certain criteria are met, including evidence the respirator is authentic.https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/emergency-situations-medical-devices/emergency-use-authorizations#covid19ppe …

FDA had previously issued an EUA for importing non-NIOSH-approved N95 respirators. That EUA did not list KN95 respirators made per China’s standards because of concerns about fraudulent products listed as KN95s.

Yesterday, FDA also issued guidance to help expand the availability of general use face masks for the public and respirators for health care professionals during the #COVID19 pandemic. The guidance applies to KN95 respirators as well.https://www.fda.gov/regulatory-information/search-fda-guidance-documents/enforcement-policy-face-masks-and-respirators-during-coronavirus-disease-covid-19-public-health …

We are constantly working to mitigate any potential shortages in the supply chain and taking action to make sure health care personnel on the front lines have sufficient supplies of respiratory protective devices during the #COVID19 pandemic.

How close are we to having enough? Are we 10% of the way or 90%?

To figure out if we have "enough", first you have to figure out how many people will get sick and need care. According to Fauci and Birx you can't rely on the models.

That's my frustration. A lot of reassurances but contradictory information confuses what's really happening. And the quarantine timeline keeps being pushed further out. I would have thought that those with the disease would have presented symptoms by now.

It's hard to tell because the hospitals are keeping it a secret when they lack gear. The government needs to demand all the hospitals report on what they have and what they need.
