It took about 10 years for the economy to recover from the Great Recession. And jobless claims are >4X what they were during worst weeks of the last crisis. Everyone’s guessing, but naive extrapolation would forecast a generational rebuild. 30+ years? https://irle.berkeley.edu/the-post-recession-labor-market-an-incomplete-recovery/ …pic.twitter.com/RwANwK2H3y

Crazy how extreme all the numbers are on both sides. From most optimistic to most pessimistic.

One reason to be optimistic is that this recession didn't have underlying structural deficiencies like 2008 did. But we've never seen anything like this before, so who knows.

It’s all psychology. And history doesn’t repeat. Everyone wants to get back to the good economy It won’t recover in Boolean fashion, but as long as this is measured in months, I also would expect a fast response

doubt it comes back as quickly as you suggest. 1. Tourism & Hospitality is 8% of GDP. That will not come back quickly. especially with borders closed. 2. savings will get crushed with job cuts. 3. businesses cutting capex 4. worldwide economies weak = less trade

There's going to be major changes to the structure of the economy - social distancing during #flu and now #coronavirus season will take some getting used to. Economy may take more than a year to adjust.
