NYC itself says they will have 23k beds for "surge" once the Comfort arrives (already > 20k). ICU beds a different story, and that's a real issue in NYC, but I don't see it as a national problem. This is a regional crisis, and not evenly spread, not even by population density.

Is it just me or does 3,000 ICU beds sound light for a population of around 10 million? That is 1 in 3,000. Seems like it should be more like 10,000? 1 in 1000.
