Here’s a genuine question. What if we all allowed the younger gen (who aren’t likely to die from corona) to all quickly get it. Then quarantine and social distance those who are at risk to it and protect them. Wouldn’t that be the quickest way to gain herd immunity?

Yes, it would help. But some of them would probably die, and society is not ready for that.

UK government is trying on the 'herd immunity' strategy. Talk of 60% infected with 1% mortality is not going down well.

I got news for you. That’s already happened. It’s been in the US for months and young people are the most social. Why are our ICUs so empty right now? Maybe I’m wrong but could the virus have already mutated to a less virulent form here?

ICUs aren’t empty. They’re currently filled with the annual Flu patients. (And yes we fill 100% of hospital beds every year from Flu)

Society is just peachy keen with a certain percentage of people dying from fentanyl, gang violence, and other deadly things we can’t seem to eradicate, so what makes this any different? (Honest question, really, what makes this different?)

We all will get this virus eventually, the only question is how prepared will the healthcare system be, if you don’t individually do well, when it is your turn. #FlattenTheCurve

But with this strategy would fewer youth (and older gen) die than in the current strategy of “let corona infect the kids in colleges then send them home to quarantine with the older gen”

How long immunity lasts for following covid-19 infection is the biggest unknown. Comparison with other Coronaviridae suggests it may be relatively short-lived (i.e. months). If this were to be confirmed, it would add to the challenge of managing the pandemic. (7/12)

Not only die, but some of the recovered would be disabled, not necessarily just the old. How much disability is tolerable?https://news.yahoo.com/people-fully-recover-coronavirus-left-103917303.html?soc_src=hl-viewer&soc_trk=fb …
