China seems to be trying to eradicate the virus. The US is trying to "flatten the curve" and protect the weak until herd immunity happens. As long as we follow our strategy, their strategy is doomed. Am I wrong? #WuhanVirus #coronavirus

If would could truly eradicate a virus, then why would HIV/AIDS still exist? Why do the flu and even the common cold make rounds every year? The key is trying to slow the spread and lower the R0 - of any illness. Then hospitals have enough staff ready to handle severe cases.

Because for that there is no immunity: you get it, you keep it. From
#coronavirus, instead, you can heal (99% of the times). - Show replies

Scott, consider what flattening the curve looks like with real numbers attached to it. It’s not really all that feasible and the immunity part is uncertain.
@yaneerbaryam is perhaps the best follow for this, he saw it coming a mile away https://twitter.com/yaneerbaryam/status/1238753409907470336?s=21 …https://twitter.com/yaneerbaryam/status/1238753409907470336 …

While there is never a total eradication of a virus, they can be effectively contained, which is a near eradication. Look at Smallpox and SARS (SARS-1?) successes. https://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2003/pr56/en/ …

Check me if I am wrong - but we have never cured a virus, right?

No cures, but vaccines (e.g., MMR)
