If this were no worse than a normal flu, Italian hospitals would not be piling corpses like firewood and you wouldn't hear of so many Iranian leaders dying in a week. https://twitter.com/mitchellvii/status/1237791597770743808 …

The point of flu or not is that there is total panic despite the fact that coronavirus cases and more so deaths are yet a fraction of regular/swine flu . Italiy crashed with only 1,500 severe cases which says more about the state of hospitals in the west than it does Corona.

I have seen nothing approaching panic, just valid concern and prepping.

Dow lost 20% within a month of its record. That's panic. Countries are being brought to a halt. That's more than simple prep. SK has held its numbers low without locking down most of their country. Indeed they test more and the public has masks etc. Ok. Let's do the same.

Stock markets are adjusting to our new reality entirely rationally. And countries are doing extreme prepping, but that is not panic. Are you defining "panic" as being too prepared?

I'd argue the markets are adjusting more to the oil/gas war then the are the virus. Combined that's causing panic.

My understanding is that there's only one small pocket of Italy that the healthcare system is being overwhelmed, no?

I don't believe we have a new reality. Humanity has had novel virus outbreaks before & will again. Nature is beautiful & terrible. We are not in charge. We need to take sensible precautions and this particular outbreak will end. Don't believe any one who claims to know the course

A 21% market rout in a matter of weeks before there is mass cases (relative to other outbreaks) is panic. If you think it is rational then it's a matter of perspective that can't be decided in either direction. (I am not sure all is great in Italy during regular flu seson.)

Nothing rational about it at all. It’s a temporary thing even at it’s worst just like H1N1 was in 2009/10. And stocking up on TP and bottled water is not normal prepping, it’s panic buying based on media fueled over reactions
