No, you're wrong on that take, Scott. You can't possibly argue that there isn't a varying level of understanding/competency among people, in relation to any field of expertise/knowledge. The issue is that you're not defining "problem" with Science.

You might suppose the "problem" implies that they "take issue" with Science. However, if we're talking about decision-making, both competency/understanding and the weight to which they assign any factor (Science included) will affect their decision outcomes (judgement).

Discussing, debating, questioning assumptions and sources of data logically and cogently is not "taking issue" with science, it is the very essence of science. "You don't believe in science" is all too often a cudgel used by those who know little about science. 1/

One could certainly suggest (potentially validly, depending on the circumstances) that an individual lacks a full understanding of "the science" related to a particular topic, and (as a result) assigns more weight to other factors when forming an opinion or making decisions.
