Telemedicine for #COVIDー19 won’t be effective unless @realDonaldTrump issues an Executive Order allowing doctors to practice outside their licensed state (or country?) for this purpose. Need that TODAY to prepare. @mattgaetz @aoc @GOPLeader @MarkMeadows @SpeakerPelosi

I'm trying to follow what's being said here, why can't any licensed physician practice telemedicine?

You have to be licensed in each state you work in.

Right. But are there not doctors in every state? Telemedicine in and of itself doesn't require a separate license.

It’s a traffic question. You want your doctors in low infection states to help out in hard-hit states. Probably a 10X improvement in availability this way.

Strongly agree, if I was allowed to practice telemedicine across state lines, this would be such a massive force multiplier, significant help to what will quickly become an overburdened medical system

We had that problem after Hurricane Katrina on the animal rescue side. Louisiana State Veterinarian stopped Vets coming from other states w/o Louisiana licenses, in order to "give business to local Vets." However, offices of local Vets were destroyed & had no capacity.

Large companies like Teladoc and AmWell are well staffed with physicians having licenses across all states. Not sure this will be a huge issue. These companies have dealt with severe flu A/B seasons before, which is somewhat similar.
