How is it Diagnosed? Here is a flow chart for clinical diagnosis and standard of care for the #CoronaVirus The most important part of this is the Dyspnea or Hypoxia. If they present with this, they immediately go to Measure 4 and isolated. Link: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30071-0/fulltext …pic.twitter.com/5MbGfjpPoF

How Fast Do You Get Sick? Currently, based on the data it looks like it takes 7 days before critical cases (20-25% of diagnosed cases) need to be hospitalized. 8 days to get shortness of breath 9 days for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome 11 Days for ICU Admissionpic.twitter.com/Y5dJ7OcDOM

How Fast Is It Spreading? For spread, we use a measurement known as R-nought (or R0), which is how many humans 1 person can infect. Current estimates for R0 of the Corona Virus is 2-3. The flu, for comparison is 1.3 Source: Johns Hopkins Universitypic.twitter.com/RdOZHHje6S

Will This Be A Severe Pandemic? Severity is based on having both a HIGH mortality rate and a HIGH R0 SARS and MERS had 7-9% mortality rates, but their R0 was low (high death, low spread.) The H1N1 Flu pandemic was opposite (low death, high spread) #CoronaVirus has both

How Severe Will It Be? Oddly, there was a 'pandemic scenario' exercise from 2019 covering a 'bat to pig corona virus' infection that started in Brazil The results of the exercise showed we did not do well and 65 million people were estimated to die LINK http://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/event201/scenario.html …pic.twitter.com/VazDRZnYMw

Should I Wear A Mask? While the CDC guidelines say healthy people should not wear a mask, there is contradicting studies showing that masks do help prevent it to a certain degree This study also showed no statistical difference for N95 or Surgical LINK:https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2749214 …

Clarification: Does the CDC say you "should not wear" a mask or does it simply not endorse it? I believe they are silent on the question of whether it prevents virus. Need fact check.

Scott, CDC claims that the mask is ‘not effective at prevention’ and you should only wear them if you are sick There are studies, however, that contradict that sentiment and the CDC may be saying that to prevent a shortage for healthcare workers I’ll find the studies later

You will find that masks work to prevent transmission of the virus by preventing people from touching their mouth and nose with their contaminated hands. All one needs are goggles to prevent touching the eyes.

Articles sometimes quote Surgeon General (not CDC), sometimes the articles put "should not" in the headline, while not supported in the reporting. We're seeing massive conflation/confusion on this.

in UK advice is masks do not prevent you getting it, they do help avoid giving it to others. However if you have the virus you should self isolate and leave the masks for the healthcare professionals.

Citations for studies indicating wearing a mask is an effective preventative measure? Hard to believe surgical masks can provide an effective barrier to a 50-200 nanomicron viron - keen to see if this conclusion is based on them merely preventing touching of the face.
