Not everyone is susceptible to the flu bug. Flu virus mutates very rapidly, each variant has a susceptible component of the population, but that component varies considerably. Your reaction to a bug will vary too, some will hit you like a hammer and some will pass you by.

Exposure immunity is life time not the decade immunity of vaccines. Children breast fed by mothers with Spanish flu exposure have secondary immunity. Boomers had the golden ticket for immunity for hitting old age. Vaccines give you a decade of immune response.

The influenza changes so you’re not always immune to the most recent one but it’s not as deadly because you have some level of immunity to it... and no it’s much less than 20% that get the flu each year
