Can someone smart explain to me how ANY annual virus stops before it infects most of the planet?

An uneducated guess would be: 1. People with strong immunity don’t get the virus. 2. The weakest get it and die. 3. The middle get it and survive, and in the process develop some natural immunity to catching it again. The virus slowly fades away due to lack of new hosts.

Regular flu only hits something like 20% of the public (guessing here). That would imply a lot of people with strong immunity.

True. I guess then you would also have to include of a lot of people getting lucky enough not to come in contact with the virus as well.

Also to be considered, besides those with strong immunity are the ones who have gotten a flu shot.

more resistant people have a cold instead of flu, but still carry a virus. Probably close to everybody catches seasonal flu viruses, except maybe those with Ted Kaczynski's lifestyle

We have flu vaccines for the yearly flu and many people get the vaccine to prevent many from getting the flu. We don’t have one for COVID19 yet that is readily available

The flu vaccine is for the previous year's flu. It basically just makes it to where if you do get the flu it won't be as bad

It sounds unlikely because you’re thinking about it backwards. 80% have normal immunity. 20% have weak immunity (from age, other illness, poor diet, etc.) or were exposed to high viral loads. Our immune systems are freaking amazing.

COVID-19 is not a flu. It is a cold. We don't have cold vaccines for a reason. They would not be effective and they would not confer long term immunity. You can get COVID-19 again a few weeks after having it.

Yes, the lack of herd immunity is terrifying. Letting everyone get it is not a solution

The more people survive the virus the more the R0 of the flu is reduced. Flu would go extinkt....unless it wouldnt innovate...i mean mutate and it starts again all over. Question is how many % of population must be immune to bring the R0 below one on corona.. find out in iran
