Can someone smart explain to me how ANY annual virus stops before it infects most of the planet?

Viruses are not completely understood but one thing they seem to be is self limiting. As in they won’t kill all the hosts because that is not to their benefit and as so many people are infected and have no symptoms and manage to build up natural immunity, we all could have it.

The difference could be subtle, and just enough to land on the right side of a growth equilibrium. Say the population goes to malls, shows, restaurants, etc, say 10%-20% less, and wash their hands 50% more often, wouldn’t be obvious but perhaps just enough. Just speculating.

I don't see how this stuff could be so viral and yet so easily thwarted by a small reduction in activity.

So true. I went out to dinner with friends last Saturday night. The restaurant was packed to the gills. You would never think there was a worldwide health issue.

It stops when enough people are infected gaining immunity to the strain(no longer capable of hosting a contagious virus. Immunity through contracting it, vaccination or isolation/quarantine. So yes without a vaccine we you will see people in hazmat suits driving paddy wagons soon

The people that are sick do interact less; the difference here is the long incubation period, so people that feel fine will be out and about spreading the virus to others when they feel fine.
