@ScottAdamsSays China is larger than the continental US, so: Imagine there were a (relatively contained) scary flu outbreak in the middle of Tennessee: would you expect other countries to immediately stop air travel to places like Portland or Seattle?

Developing countries that are smart shut sh*t down ASAP. One of the first to shut down the 737MAX was UAE. Why? Cause they know, lack of safety quickly becomes their brand! Same applies to terrorism/extremism, communicable diseases... UAE was the safest country I ever lived in!!

The question is: why in the world would you take a chance with this virus? It’s like being warned that great whites have been hunting seals in the general area and saying, “well, the general area is pretty big, I’ll still jump in and go for a swim.”
-
Great Whites spotted off the west coast that wouldn’t stop me swimming near the east coast. Or spotted near SF wouldn’t stop me swimming near San Diego. Distance matters, and these distances are VAST

It’s the hubs that are problematic; O’Hare, JFK, San Fransisco, Vancouver, Pearson...
-
You’ll be happy to know we have started *screening* at the relevant hubs - JFK, SFO and LAX. Incoming passengers fill out a questionnaire, get their temperature checked, get followup investigation. We’ll see what the screening finds...

Modern air travel: every place is next to every other place.

Saying “just shut down the airport” could be right for tiny countries with ONE airport, but for vast regions with dozens of them, the cost of shutting them ALL seems pretty large relative to the risks, though you do get points for consistency
-
You said it was contained in Tennessee.
