Wouldn't have worked so well at the time of the "Common Sense", "Poor Richard's Almanack", or the "Federalist Papers". Anonymity is annoying, but not all of us are at freedom to speak safely with our own names, if nothing else for concern about employment.
Just brainstorming, but what if there were a lower level of "verified" in which you upload your ID and you have to use the matching name in your profile? Still subject to identity theft, but would cut trolls by 95% when the filter is on.

Not implausible. Still think it's a bad idea as it is yet another tool toward silencing inconvenient voices, which as of late there seems to be a bipartisan effort toward. The net effect, well intentioned or not, is the increasing elimination of "unapproved" viewpoints.

Or make people request reaction permission via a DM-like messaging option. That wouldn't involve a verification system that possibly violates privacy laws elsewhere.
