It would depress the rabid section of the Democrat base that they rely on to get out the vote. It would actually cause Dems to lose more seats. It's too far for their base to allow turning. Pelosi initial calculation on need for bipartisanship before taking votes was correct.

Every incumbent Democrat that votes against will likely get no money nor canvassers from outside their district and will likely get primary'd or 3rd partied by rabid pro-impeachment Democrats.

Agreed. Democrats have more to lose than to gain by impeachment. (given what we know) Giving half (or more) of the country incentive to punish you during an election year doesn’t feel like the strongest play. We’ll see if the more reasonable Ds end up winning out in the House.
