Gen 2/3 LWR can go days/weeks/months while base loaded. One went two years. During load shedding, operators need to be on point, just like a Gen4. The challenge for Gen4 is class D fires. Pipes break. Sodium ignites uranium and plutonium.

TerraPower is lying about their design being meltdown proof (on paper)?

An operator at a well running plant is not particularly exciting. Most of the time is spent testing safety equipment, calibrating, etc. the plants are very stable and reliable. Some gen2, say b&w, not so much

2 years is the current life of fuel (commercial). Navy nukes are now life of the ship. But they, by design, have lots of transients, and that is when operators are needed. Even G4. And they need maintenance because even passive systems need maintenance.

Crazy how when you use better than Weapons grade Uranium for fuel you don’t need to refuel. Meanwhile the commercial industry is stuck at less than 4% enrichment.
