Same magical thinking applies in both cases. If you think I can play center in the NBA, you also have to think a 6-year old girl can play in the NFL. Same reason = magic.

Your arguments seem sound. Let merit decide. Categories are arbitrary. Fairness is a loose term. And by the way, sports are unfair by nature. But I think you're singling out only one variable in each. E.g: Sports are fair and unfair, cooperative and competitive, simultaneously.

Categories are arbitrary, but based on observation and natural fenomenae. When we create categories, it's to give an order to complexity according to some visible patterns, so they are both arbitrary and logical at the same time.
