Will Turkey sacrifice its entire economy to attack the Kurds?

Too late. It is already happening. Turkey neglected to look at the results of your poll. It is possible, even likely, that Trumps reassurances yesterday were “theatre” and “hyperbole” to surf past a difficult political moment. Hope I am wrong.

Trump assured China that he wouldn’t support the protestors. After making threats, he did nothing to stop Assad from using chemical weapons. There is no way he would go to the mat for the Kurds.

All he had to do was leave the 50 troops in place. He must have cut some kind of private deal w Turkey or just been outright fooled.

The official word is that they were moved out of the way of harm because violence was coming no matter what.

No.... violence would not have come to them if Trump’s response to Erdrogen was “our troops are with the Kurds, if you invade, we will consider it an act of war against the US”

I think Adam is right. They could not attack US troops plus Kurds. Trump either got hoodwinked or just gave up the Kurds (for what?). Perhaps this will finally turn the tide among Republicans but Trump seems made of teflon.

Are you offering a halfpinion or do you think staying for hundreds of years is the better plan?

Some places in world we have much larger presence, seemingly forever. I don’t know if that is a good idea or not. In this case we could pay a small price (keep 50 troops there) to prevent massive tragedy. May be more to story, I hope so.

Hundreds of years? US military hasn’t been anywhere for “hundreds of years”... but we have been a long term stabilizing force in Europe and Asia, since the end of WWII. And it’s helped to prevent WWIII. So yes, a long term stabilizing force is good for the USA.
