Who does know the word? To me it’s a weak word and most people will have to look up the definition but won’t because they don’t care enough. Not even close to DARK

I do not know this word but I might not count, I’m an ESL. Will look it up now though.

It's not that common so as ESL, yea. But not being everyday vernacular is what makes it sticky.
