You are brainstorming in the wrong direction. Nobody is stupid enough to shoot up a gun show. So let’s figure out what red tape restrictions to get rid of, so that it is easier for responsible citizens to arm themselves to the same degree as the police.

"I can and I want it" should be all the reason anyone needs to do anything. It's on the other person to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that this is a bad idea cuz the owner in question is a risk. "Do as thou will, but harm none," is the whole of the law.
A “thought experiment” designed to exclude young people / poor people from their Free Speech or Voting Rights would probably elicit similar responses. Saying its not a “proposal” is a cop-out.
