I feel like a big part of the deadlock is the gun lobby misrepresenting the intentions and motivations of those wanting more gun regulations. Like ALL major issues we face, it all comes down to money buying political power.

The main problem with any proposed gun control law is it violates property rights and the presumption of innocence. At least with criminals and the insane, you follow due process before restricting their rights. Gun laws punish the innocent for the crimes of the guilty.

Do speed limits, seatbelt laws, car insurance mandates etc punish good drivers?

Which points to my position that those ppl shouldnt of been able to legally buy the guns they did. Will ppl still break the law and get them illegally? Of course. But by far the least logical troupe is "since it wont stop EVERYONE why have the law?" misses the purpose of laws.

If the point is to create friction, then having more guns present does that far more effectively. In Freakonomics, they talk about how increased police presence provably led to decrease in crime. More cops ultimately translates to: more good guys with guns.
