Thought experiment: If NEW gun purchases with high capacity clips required insurance, the way autos do, would that effectively price most young males out of the market because of risk? We'd still have plenty of weapons, but mostly owned by the safest demographics. Discuss.

Inaccurate. I don’t want to subsidize other gun owners. The cost of guns is partly the cost of the damage/risk. Can the Constitution force me to pay (partly) for your gun?

I'm harmed by citizens reading the New York Times because it causes them to have stupid political opinions and make poor election decisions. Does this means that the New York Times should be taxed?

You can buy machine guns if you have the right permit. But since only guns made before they became illegal are eligible & they are very expensive. A full auto AR-15 costs around $20k plus costs of permits, back ground checks, etc...

Yes, it can. We're all required to "pay" the cost of others' rights--that's a large part of what a right is! Tolerating someone's free expression may cause me pain but I am obligated to bear that cost as part of the person's right to free speech.

The right to due process/a fair trial, etc, means we have to fund defenses for clearly-guilty people, that some/many guilty people go free and cause more harm, etc. We are obligated to bear that cost as part of respecting individual rights. Many such examples!

May be you should pay gun owners for keeping you safe by the herd immunity analogy.

Options: 1) Criminals pay for their own damage (somehow) 2) Criminals pay collectively for all criminal damage 3) Victims pay for damage 4) Citizens collectively pay for damage 5) Group X resembling criminals, pay for damage. Any solution is either unfair or doesn't work.

Gun ownership is a Constitutional right. Automobile licenses are a State privilege. The Constitution does not and cannot force free people to buy insurance for guns, as States do for car registrations.
