Thought experiment: If NEW gun purchases with high capacity clips required insurance, the way autos do, would that effectively price most young males out of the market because of risk? We'd still have plenty of weapons, but mostly owned by the safest demographics. Discuss.

Doesn't work for rifles, generally. The magazine protrudes from the weapon and there isn't a limit on how long the magazine can be. Contrast with pistols where the magazine is oftentimes partially enclosed by the hand grip. The magazine is basically a metal box with a spring.

If it takes a high capacity magazine, it needs insurance. Easy.

Payment to victims and emergency response and maybe healthcare. For example.
