In the United States, rights are enshrined in the Constitution (as currently interpreted by the Supreme Court). However, there are (common sense) exceptions (eg. prisoners lose their right to firearms). The question is, "What other common sense exceptions should there be?"
-
Some people say, "None," which is a silly position. But when its the same people who have typically been supporters of civil rights that are now proposing taking away your rights, you can understand why some people are nervous to give anything.

He clarified that today also on Periscope: We have actions that the government PERMITS us to do. We have no rights. Just who will be Scott’s audience after 2024 when he will not have Trump’s persuasion strategies to praise? I predict he will realign himself to Hard Left.pic.twitter.com/LhXHIQgl8G

hmmmm maybe... You can still "have" a right even when denied, there is a real difference in having and exercising. The premise of the DI is rights are always there but government is either securing them or denying them. Logically it must exist to be denied.

That's a narrow and practical take on it. Rights, liberties and such are higher ideals that transcend the practical, in part, because we believe they do. It is the power of positive thinking with the law and power to back it up.
