In regards to the fine people hoax, didn't you once say you thought the media was hallucinating? If so, do you still think that's the case or are they just lying now? And are they lying to themselves or just to their audience?

Can you explain the difference between "hallucinating" and "lying to themselves"? Feel free to specify distinct regions of the neocortex if that's relevant.

If they're consciously aware of the lie, how are they lying to THEMSELVES?

Hallucination: they see an elephant where there is none. Lying to themselves: deep down, they know the elephant's not real but they can't bring themselves to believe it's not real. Lying to their audience: they know there's no elephant but they're going to say there is one.

Are you saying that with an hallucination they DON'T know "deep down" that the elephant's not real? I could see that with an "illusion", where the visual system itself is fooled (e.g. V1, V2, etc.), but isn't an hallucination different?

Anyway, @ScottAdamsSays is using analogy to "prove" his point with his "elephant in the room" scenario. If two monkeys in dense brushy woodland look in a particular direction and one sees a leopard hiding there while the other doesn't, which is "hallucinating"? 1/2

Ambiguous. That’s why “elephant in the room” is the example. No ambiguity.

But it's not a good analogy for any of the real-world human situations we're describing. In these situations there's LOTS of ambiguity.

For the @realDonaldTrump -haters the "elephant" is the "proof" that he didn't say "Nazis" were "fine people". But it's more like a leopard (or man in cammies) hiding in the brush. All they see is branches. His disavowal? It's not relevant to the situation, despite being close.
