I believe the newspaper in Idaho would rely on the wires (AP) at that point. A TV station in Idaho probably has a sister station in the other state as corporations own all this stuff anyway. Maybe independent news sources could use it, which could explain part of the backlash.

To be fair, witness accounts at the scene are often wildly inaccurate anyway. Witnesses said Michael Brown had his hands up when he was shot. It was later revealed they couldn't have been up based on forensic evidence. And they couldn't see it from their vantage point anyway.
