Maybe we just developed enough pattern recognition to procreate and survive , but were terrible at the rest

A monkey that sees a leopard hiding in the brush and runs away survives whether it's real or hallucination. A monkey that doesn't sometimes gets eaten. It's just that the pattern recognition hasn't yet evolved to keep up with human language and intelligence.

If a filter is 99% effective, it is 1% ineffective. Whether that is good or bad is subjective. 99% removal of UV rays is good for sunglasses. 99% removal of dog poop from ice cream is not good enough.
