The entire point of an analogy is to connect & clarify relationships b/w concepts. By that logic, an analogy can always explain something new to the person hearing it, and at the same time be persuasive. This dichotomy you’ve set up be explaining & persuading seems 2 collapse

Think of an analogy being like a gun store. It is a delivery vehicle for a gun. The gun might persuade someone someday, but not so much the store.
