Would you agree they would remove it even if it did not belong to them? Assuming they knew how. The tanker wasn’t able.

No, such a limpet mine is more dangerous to them then to a double-hulled tanker. If it is unknown, they would not touch it with a ten-foot pole. Look at what might damage the other mines did. Tankers are built tougher the patrol boats.
