I believe the latter is a simile not an analogy-but that’s pedantic I disagree w you more on 2 fronts: 1. In the podcast it seemed you rejected Sam’s use of analogy to explain new concepts 2. Ive personally been persuaded by analogies that connect concepts that weren’t new to me

I have learned through bitter experience what a losing battle it is to explain to a broader audience any concept that holds two equally valid but contradictory truths whose applicability is conditioned upon a third variable. I bet you will be explaining this till the end of time.
