Scott Adams talks about Biden’s climate plan, a plan to reduce gun violence, 2020 election, and coffee.https://www.pscp.tv/w/b8Zw4zExODgwMjU5fDFkUkpabVJSTWpWR0LElKcXuMaOV90nujXeWzN0yq7SsAI-AeaDpVoKzFUAPw== …

"Either you want a doctor to know you bought a gun, or you don't really think gun violence is a mental health problem," seems like a false binary. The Sandy Hook shooter used guns belonging to his mother. One Columbine shooter's prom date bought him and his accomplice their guns.

I said the idea might prevent 10% of mass shootings at best. You gave me examples of the other 90%. Sticking with that?

It might prevent 10% of mass shootings -- which are already extraordinarily rare *and* on the decrease according to the data (but not media perception) -- at a cost of invading the privacy of 100% of gun purchasers & putting a legal burden to report on unqualified(?) physicians.

I just don't want a "Voter ID" type solution where preventing a narrow range of incidents (say, 10 cases of fraud that Voter ID could stop) leads to a greater negative impact (say, 1000 cases where legitimate voters couldn't vote). Here's why that's not apples and oranges:

According to the data there are a half-million cases per year where the presence of guns *stops* serious injury or death from being inflicted. Now, even if you cut that number down to 1/5th, that's 100,000 times guns may *save* lives -- more than the 30,000 times guns take lives.

You seem to be stuck arguing some other suggestion about gun confiscation. I'm not going to respond to any more comments that make that assumption. That isn't a necessary feature of the idea.

*Not* gun confiscation. Rather, the chilling effect of knowing that a gun purchase is going to require a doctor's slip or something, or else you're going to attract the attention of law enforcement -- i.e., "Only a person with something dangerous to hide would plead the 2nd!"

This all goes back to a mono-culture enforcing norms. All the shooters are outcasts. Creating more outcasts (now via the medical profession) won't reduce the population of shooters.
