is it possible for a system to be fair?

Fairness is subjective. So in theory, yes, if everyone agreed it feels fair to them, I'd call it fair. In reality, people disagree on what is fair.

The most talented player normally wins. Very unfair.

And this will take root at the HS level; look at what people have been shown to do to get into the colleges they want. Two track athletes in CT who were mediocre male athletes are dominating as females. Will they get the scholarships? Colleges have to remain competitive.....

So get rid of all sports? Since they arent inherently unfair anyway "Why protect them?" Right?

Why should we make systems even less fair. No doubt that most are fodder to the winners of sports. Most don't win. But, the perception alone is important. Why would we play sports if we didn't have this perception of fairness?

You couldn't make them less fair if you tried. There will always be the same number of winners and losers if you have the same number of games. And luck is generally the biggest factor, including the luck of your DNA and your living circumstances.

The Russians believe that you are niave if you don't cheat. They constantly cheat. It seems to be in the Russian DNA. They too believe that sports is unfair and everyone needs help to compete.
