Yup, he did say that, but: 1. It was 2 days later, after the outrage 2. That outrage was due to a filter 'he' built by which folks viewed his equivocation ie. with his earlier equivocation on Duke (feigned ignorance), & not helped by perceived racism (CP 5 + Housing Rental).
