Actually, I make that same argument in my upcoming book as a reason to not trust peer review to catch temperature data errors. But it would still be unlikely for a dozen people (per proxy) in different parts of the globe to all be in on this alleged con.

In 1989, Tom Karl and Phil Jones said all US warming was due to UHI. That is another bit of knowledge which was later flushed down the Orwellian memory hole. https://realclimatescience.com/2019/04/understanding-noaa-us-temperature-fraud-2/ …pic.twitter.com/UOBLzNWWzE

But those adjustments should adjust the present down or the past up. The opposite is happening. If heat islands are a factor, it means that our current temperature readings may be too high compared to the past. The adjustments go the other way though.

Urban heat sinks might explain temperature increases. But what explains the retroactive decrease in 1930s temperatures?

Scott, changing from morning to afternoon measurements should only cause a 24hr shift along the time axis for temps, not change the max or min recorded.

If a weather station was at an airport in 1950 will give a big temperature difference between then and 2019. But it is not a good comparison for temp changes in the surrounding countryside. It is necessary for the safety of the planes.

If urban heat islands are artificially increasing recorded temperatures, then shouldn’t corrective adjustments to determine the natural temperature trends be down (to subtract the artificial local warming) and not up?
