Finland's is literally the world's first deep geological repository. Do you think the Corporate run US government or nuclear industry are investing in the long-term? Short term profit, decrease costs, socialize the cost to the public and to the environment is their modus operandi

So, what is your alternative? Wind? PV? I'm not excluding them, but they also pollute significantly, and cannot scale up.

There's a million alternatives that don't involve scrambling the human genome...starting with actual education on the matter, not just Corporate bought biostitutes selling their wares.

Sorry, there just aren't. Hydro is great, but there's not enough. Geothermal idem. Then there's PV.. Nice, but they case massive poison lakes in China, and scramble the human genome. Wind isn't much better and takes up huge slabs of land... Worse, they don't scale.

I think you're suffering from a very dangerous case of a lack of imagination. Nuclear is not the way. It's expensive, dangerous, vulnerable to wars, economic downturns, human error and there's currently no technology to address meltdowns or radioactive releases. I say hell no!

Keep on saying that. GenIV will be meltdown proof and China will have demonstration prototype MSBR ready next year. The US has just started an initiative for new nuclear. Your argument is negative. Anything with moderate energy concentration is considered unviably dangerous.

If you want to know the future of nuclear...look at Westinghouse. If you want to know the risks...look at Fukushima or Chernobyl. If you want to know how responsible they are with waste...look at Diablo, Vermont Yankee where the waste will be stored til the NI grows a conscience

Westinghouse was destroyed by the anti-nuclear lobby in the West. Chernobyl was a terrible outdated design. Fukushima: the tsunami killed the people, the plant didn't. Even wind power kills 15 people per year.

People should have a healthy fear of deadly radioactive pollutants...and nuclear power plants. 75% of them leak here in the US and maybe quit mass producing and saddling their ancestors with deadly, unnecessary radioactive waste...https://www.cbsnews.com/news/radioactive-leaks-found-at-75-of-us-nuke-sites/ …

Fake news. The radiation is about as much as eating a banana.

Probably, although the potassium that banana's hold and enter our digestive system is regulated.. The amount of radioactive potassium in our body hence virtually always stays the same. In any case, it is probably lower than background radiation from your living room walls yes.

External radiation has a far less detrimental effect than internal radiation. External radiation is mostly limited to gamma and x-ray with a low LET. Alpha and Beta have little effect if external and can be devastating internally with high LET.
