I'm more and more suspecting that right-wingers, on some level, seriously believe that if they can support their position by cherry-picking factoids, this does in fact somehow prove their position right.

Trump says there were fine people on both sides. Seconds later, he clarifies by saying he’s not referring to the nazis and white supremacists and they should be condemned totally. The left and media ran with the lie for 2 years. Yet thus is somehow a “cherrypicked factoid.”
